liliʻuokalani Park and Gardens

Liliʻuokalani Park and Gardens is a 24.14-acre park with Japanese gardens, located on Banyan Drive in Hilo on the island of Hawaiʻi. The park's site was donated by Queen Liliʻuokalani, and lies southeast of downtown Hilo, on the Waiakea Peninsula in Hilo Bay


Coconut Island

Coconut Island, or Mokuola is a small island in Hilo Bay, just offshore from Lili'uokalani Park and Gardens, in Hilo, off the island of Hawaii. It is a small park, and is connected to the main island via a footbridge.


Wa'akaulua Sailing Adventures

Wa'akaulua is the Hawaiian word for double hull canoe.  Captain Kiko is a sailor and experienced boat builder specializing in traditional Hawaiian canoes made by hand.  He has spent his entire life on the Big Island of Hawaii and can show you many off-the-beaten-path places on this island.  On his tours he will teach you about the history, geology and customs of this land and the sea surrounding it.  He will teach you to paddle a traditional Hawaiian canoe.  He might even teach you a few Hawaiian words and songs.


Nautilus Dive Center

Comfort in the ocean requires separate skills from scuba skills. If you are not comfortable in the ocean, Nautilus recommends regular swimming, snorkeling, kayaking and floating in the waves to become accustomed to the rhythms of the ocean. It is pretty easy to learn scuba dive if you are comfortable in the ocean. Take the time to develop your water skills and learn to relax in the ocean before attempting certification, and you will learn faster during training.


Mauna Kea Observatories

Hawaii is Earth's connecting point to the rest of the Universe.  The summit of Mauna Kea on the Island of Hawaii hosts the world's largest astronomical observatory, with telescopes operated by astronomers from eleven countries. The combined light-gathering power of the telescopes on Mauna Kea is fifteen times greater than that of the Palomar telescope in California -- for many years the world's largest -- and sixty times greater than that of the Hubble Space Telescope.

Hilo Bay Cafe

Hilo Bay Cafe started in 2003 by a small group of dedicated food lovers. For 10 years, the 70-seat restaurant flourished against odds in a small central Hilo strip mall location. From the start, it was well loved by locals and visitors alike, serving seasonal and organic food and wines with a fun and comfortable “come as you are” attitude.Living up to the aspirations of its name, Hilo Bay Cafe moved to a bigger, brighter location on the shores of beautiful Hilo Bay in October 2013. Here, familiar faces and new fans mingle. Diners enjoy contemporary, locally inspired dishes, artisan sushi, and they still love the wine, but the craft beer and cocktails now fly out the door into the hands of happy customers sitting on the lanai.


Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park
